Indian Govt's 5 SMS per day person to person restriction for 15 days

Hi! You have sent 5 SMS today. As per Govt. guidelines, you can,t send more outgoing person to person SMS today. Your SMS services will be resumed post Midnight.

From 18-Aug you have observed that you are getting this message while sending more than 5 SMS to a single person. This was the most ever heard rule by the Indian Government (TRAI), This news has been, rounds since July this year but it’s finally confirmed now. From 18th of August 2012 you can’t send more than 5 SMS to a person, and it has been a person to person Restriction Policy.
As of now, many telecom operaters have implemented this and users have already started getting these type of messages, while others yet to go. But on a official note, I was not able to find any formal announcement on TRAI's website.
I know its a very sad news for all who chat through SMS. But this action has bound the telecom providers with a great competition, So soon there will be a way to recover it. Lets hope for the good. Stay in touch for more updates on it.

[Updated after 45 min of original post]

New updates are, Its not TRAI who did this. This not a new restriction. This is just a temporary thing for 15 days by Govt. of India. The decision was taken after reports of widespread circulation of SMSs and MMSs containing misleading information about Assam violence, threats to people of northeastern origin living in other parts of the country and doctored videos.
The home ministry has asked department of telecommunications to implement the order through the telecom operators.
From Friday onwards, no one will be able to send more than 5 SMSs in one go and more than 20 KB of data through mobile phones during the ban period. This ban period is of 15 days.

Aah! Finally a relief that its not permanent.

Share it. Share knowledge. Share happiness.

  1. Very sad to know about this restriction. Indian government doesnt really bother about real scams, scamsters, criminals and so on.. but its pressure is always on common man. We can't send atleast sms to our friends or relatives now due to this. Great government ever, its just like british rule in india these days.

  3. They have nothing better to do than getting corrupt and eating money. Don't be surprised if tomorrow they give orders of shoot at sight for any person on the road only because a cracker was lighted without the permission of Govt. Shameless Govt. Just annoying and torturing people on the name of taking some action. I am sure they will now go back and focus on how to spread more corruption, afterall they have solved the problem, isn't it Mr. ManMohan Singh Ji?? Shame on you.

  5. Is this they are doing at the name of taking actions for public protection??
What if this happens after 15 days?
If someone can try to spread rumors(just think how big the motive is), will he/she stop only because he can't send more than 5 msgs? :-D OMG!! Please don't tell anyone outside india. They will die laughing.
Indian Govt.--"90 msgs per day are too much. Anyone can spread rumors with this much msgs. Lets shorten them to 5 and get back to work. So where were we before this panic?"

    1. Its just another way to torture the public :(
If some1 really wants to spread rumours or create a nuisance using mass media, then they will find out other ways too... they will end up doing what they want... then it doesnt matter if we have 5 msgs or 200!!!
govt of india keeps searching for ideas to torture public

  6. Dude wtf is this! we can't contact with people during these 15 days. calling them is not possible every time. atleast the restriction should have been 50 msg's per day.

  7. This is totally ridiculous. How can the govt. lay so much restriction on us. Now i am doubting whether we are a democratic nation or not. Its not good on the part of the govt. It is just showing their inability to cope with the situation.

  11. If it is only for 15 days also thats not right. This is not the govnt should do!! I'm really upset when I was not able to send more than 5 sms to my friend in the morning!! Cant we do anything about this!!! Don't we have power to stop this or change this! should we sit for 15 days by just listening to wt the fu___ing people say?? I wanna see if there is a way out and we all can unite to do something !!

  12. I also wonder if they have taken crores of rupees from telecom companies considering the factor that they do not have to bear the burden of free messages for at least 15 days, Since this is one of the biggest business these days if you notice. Almost every third person has this free message pack-which costs around Rs. 50 per month, which means telecom companies are saving Rs. 25 from every such person!! In the end it will make HUGE amount.
Otherwise whats the guarantee this won't happen after 15 days? And if they are looking at this particular picture of Pune only, why do this in whole of the nation? You can block national messages, and local messaging within affected Southern region. How smart of our government. They know how to fully utilize situations.
